FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Good framing isn’t simply about putting something in a frame. It’s about finding the right way to present, protect and enjoy it for years to come.If your question isn't answered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – all questions are welcome!
What can you frame?
Almost anything that deserves to be displayed and preserved. I frame original artwork, prints, photographs, posters, certificates, textiles, children’s artwork, memorabilia and more. I also specialise in framing canvases, including deep canvases and contemporary tray frames. If you’re not sure whether something can be framed, bring it in and we’ll find a solution.
How much does picture framing cost?
There isn’t a single price because every frame is made to suit the piece. The cost depends on the size, frame moulding, mount, glazing and any specialist techniques required. We’ll talk through the options and I'll give you a clear price before we go ahead, so there are no surprises.
Do I need to know what kind of frame I want?
Not at all. In fact, that’s one of the reasons to come to a professional framer. We’ll look at your artwork together and I'll help you choose a frame, mount and glazing that complement the piece and work in the room where it will hang.
Can you frame something that isn’t a standard size?
Yes. All of my framing is made to order, so I'm not restricted to standard frame sizes. Whether it’s an unusual photograph, a large piece of artwork or something with awkward proportions, I can create a frame to fit.
How long does framing take?
Most framing is completed within approximately 3 weeks. Some projects can be completed sooner, while particularly large, complex or specialist pieces may take a little longer. I’ll give you an estimated completion date when you place your order.
What types of glass are available?
I offer different glazing options depending on the artwork and your budget. Standard clear glass is suitable for many pieces, while low-reflection and conservation glazing can offer a clearer view and additional protection from damaging UV light. I’ll explain the differences and help you choose the most appropriate option.
What is conservation framing?
Conservation framing is designed to protect artwork and other precious pieces from deterioration over time. It can include acid-free or archival-quality materials, appropriate mounting techniques and specialist glazing. It’s particularly worth considering for original artwork, old photographs, documents, textiles and anything with sentimental or financial value.
Can you frame canvases?
Yes. I frame both traditional stretched canvases and deeper canvases. Depending on the piece, we can use a conventional frame or a contemporary tray/float frame that leaves a small space around the canvas, creating a clean, modern appearance.
Can you frame photographs?
Absolutely. Whether it’s a family photograph, a professional photograph, a fine-art print or a much-loved old picture, I can help you choose the right combination of mount, frame and glazing.
Can you frame something with sentimental value?
Of course. Some of the things people bring us have little monetary value but are enormously important to them. A child’s drawing, an old family photograph, a wedding invitation or something inherited from a loved one can all deserve the same care and attention as a valuable work of art. I'll treat every piece accordingly.
Can you help me choose a frame for a particular room?
Yes. If you know where the finished piece will hang, it’s useful to bring a photograph of the room or show us the space on your phone. We can consider the colours, architecture, furniture and overall feel of the room when helping you choose the frame.
Can you match an existing frame?
I can often find something very close, or suggest an alternative that works alongside your existing frame. If you’re trying to match a particular frame, bring in a sample or photograph if possible. Please bear in mind though that some mouldings simply aren't made any more, but I'll do what I can.
Do you offer bespoke or unusual framing?
Yes. Bespoke framing is at the heart of what I do. I enjoy finding solutions for pieces that don’t fit the standard approach, whether that’s an unusual size, a particularly deep artwork, a complex mount or a completely different way of displaying something.
